What is an Artist?
The artist’s work may be hurtful and offensive. It may make us think of things we’d rather not think of. Yet the artist is still an artist, whose intention is to stir emotion and provoke thought. Art exemplifies humankind, society, and spiritual experience. It is an attempt to capture the world. In this way, art is not merely an object but a means of understanding the human condition and the human experience.
The artist needs to find out what skillset she wants to acquire to create an art work. This means taking criticisms to heart and learning from failures. As an artist, you are never satisfied with your current skills. As an artist, you never stop learning and developing new skills. Whether you’re creating art in clay, using oil paint, or creating a film, you should always keep in mind that art is a living, evolving process.
The Renaissance ushered in a time when artists were recognised and rewarded for their work. Giorgio Vasari’s book, The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, helped Florentines gain respect for the artists they had employed. Moreover, they used art as a means to communicate their power. This was a major turning point in the evolution of art. While artists in the Renaissance were largely anonymous, their work soon began to stand out and become more visible.
The definition of an artist is diverse and can include anyone who practices art or displays their work on a public platform. The term “artist” can also include people who practice the arts in a business or profession. For example, the word “artiste” refers to a skilled person with a particular craft, such as a painter. It is also used to describe an accomplished public performer. So, what is an artist? Ultimately, it is about the artist’s sensibility.
